Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
