Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
