Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
