Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
