Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
