Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
