Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
