Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
