Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn every little thing he could about the game. He routinely would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
