Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
