Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
