Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
