Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
