Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
