NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
