Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
