Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
