Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
