Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
