Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
