Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
