Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by many of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
