Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
