Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from others destroy his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
