Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
