Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
