NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
