Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
