Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the adverse comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
