Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
