Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
